Why topographical surveys are priced per site
A clear, open field and a busy town-centre plot of the same size can take very different times to survey. Price depends on time on site plus the drafting work to turn the data into a clean CAD drawing, so a reliable quote starts with understanding the site and what the drawing is for.
What affects the cost
- Site size – the area to be surveyed, including any adjoining roads or neighbouring land.
- Amount of detail – an open field has few features; a developed site has buildings, walls, kerbs, covers and trees to record.
- Level of detail required – spot level density, contour interval and whether every feature or only key features are needed.
- Trees and vegetation – heavily wooded or overgrown sites take longer to survey.
- Extras – building heights, street elevations, floor levels, invert levels, measured building surveys or a 3D model.
- Access – live sites, roads needing traffic management, or areas only available out of hours.
- Combined surveys – adding a PAS128 utility or CCTV drainage survey on the same visit usually costs less than separate bookings.
How to get an accurate quote quickly
Send us a site plan or marked-up aerial image showing the survey boundary, with the postcode and what the survey is for. With that we can come back with a fixed quote, usually the same or next working day.
- Site address or postcode
- Plan or aerial with the survey boundary marked
- Purpose: purchase, planning, design, flood risk or setting out
- Any extras: building heights, elevations, 3D model, utilities
- Access notes: working hours, permits, inductions
Where the money is saved
Designing from OS mapping or old drawings is a false economy. Wrong levels lead to redesign, extra earthworks, drainage that will not fall, and planning drawings that have to be redone. An accurate survey at the start avoids those costs.
