Specialist surveyors in Central Scotland
Ambler Group is a specialist surveying company. In Scotland, our surveyors are based in Glasgow and Falkirk, which puts Glasgow, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Cumbernauld and Stirling within easy daily reach, with Perth, Fife, Lanarkshire, West Lothian and Renfrewshire close behind.
We find what is under the ground with PAS128 utility surveys and GPR surveys, and measure what is on it with topographical surveys. Book them together, add a CCTV drainage survey, and you get one team and one coordinated drawing.
Find out more about all our services across the UK on the main Ambler Group website.

One team for above and below ground
Most projects need to know both what is on the site and what is under it. Because we are utility surveyors and topographical surveyors, we can survey both in one visit and deliver a single drawing that designers, planners and groundworkers can all work from.
PAS128 utility surveys
Records search, site reconnaissance, EML and GPR detection and verification, with every service labelled with its PAS128 quality level.
GPR surveys & concrete scanning
Ground penetrating radar for plastic pipes, ducts, voids and structures, and concrete scanning of slabs and walls before coring or drilling.
Topographical surveys
Levels, contours, buildings, trees and features, with building heights, elevations and 3D models where needed.
CCTV drainage surveys
Commercial and construction drainage surveys and drain mapping – see our CCTV drainage surveys in Scotland.

Surveys in Central Scotland | Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Which areas of Scotland do you cover?
A: We cover Glasgow, Edinburgh, Falkirk and Grangemouth, Cumbernauld, Stirling, Perth, North and South Lanarkshire, West Lothian, Paisley and Renfrewshire, and Fife, and travel further across Scotland for larger projects.
Q2: What is a PAS128 utility survey?
A: PAS128 is the British Standards Institution specification for detecting, verifying and locating underground utilities. It sets out four survey types (desktop records search, site reconnaissance, detection and verification) and labels every service on the drawing with a quality level, so designers and contractors know how reliable each line is.
Q3: What is the difference between a GPR survey and a utility survey?
A: Many people call a utility survey a GPR survey. In practice we use both electromagnetic location (EML) and ground penetrating radar (GPR) together: EML traces metallic cables and pipes, and GPR picks up plastic pipes, ducts, chambers and other features that a cable locator cannot see.
Q4: What does a topographical survey include?
A: A topographical survey records the levels and features of a site: spot heights and contours, buildings, walls, fences, kerbs, paths, trees, covers, street furniture and overhead lines. We can add building heights, street elevations, floor levels and a 3D surface where the design needs them.
Q5: Can you do the utility and topographical survey on the same visit?
A: Yes. We regularly combine PAS128 utility, GPR, topographical and CCTV drainage surveys, so you get one team, one set of RAMS and one coordinated drawing.
